Perimenopause Age Range | When Does Menopause Start?

January 18, 2019 by Deborah Maragopoulos FNP

Today we’re going to talk about the age of perimenopause. Hi, I’m Deborah Maragopoulos, intuitive, integrative family nurse practitioner. Do you ever wonder if you am in perimenopause? What is the actual age that you are supposed to reach before you reach perimenopause? Well let us take a look at that. It really kind of matters what happened to you during your hormonal lifespan.

So, when you start puberty at anywhere from ages Eleven to Fifteen, and you have your first menstrual cycle, you are going to see a mimic of your hormones in the perimenopausal period on the other end of the cycle. Most women menstruate for about thirty-five years. So that window is going to be shorter if you started you periods earlier, longer if you started your periods later.

Your Hormones Change Season by Season

January 16, 2019 by Deborah Maragopoulos FNP

You are not the same year to year, season to season, even month to month – so how can one pill, one diet, or one plan help you stay healthy for the rest of your life? What if there was a way to create a healing plan that adjusted with you?

Of course you know, as a woman, that your hormones are not the same throughout the month. In fact, your body will cycle with other women. Yes! This is a way to protect the clan. So we are all menstruating at once and can be be protected from predators. Seems kind of outdated in our modern world, but your biology is highly attuned to your environment.

Perimenopause Treatment: What are Your Options?

January 11, 2019 by Deborah Maragopoulos FNP

In this post I will talk about the treatment of perimenopause. My name is Deborah Maragopoulos, Intuitive Integrative Family Nurse Practitioner, and I really want you to understand the treatments and natural treatments for perimenopausal symptoms. So, the first thing you need to understand is that perimenopause is a condition of lower hormone levels, particularly estrogen and progesterone. And the treatments need to focus on not just raising up your hormone levels, but balancing your hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. What does that mean?

January 9, 2019 by Deborah Maragopoulos FNP

Hormonal Weight Part 4: Cortisol and the Apple Body Type

January 3, 2019 by Deborah Maragopoulos FNP

You have many hormones that can contribute to weight gain. Of these, cortisol imbalance is a major factor. Have you heard of the “pear-shaped” body versus the “apple” body? If you have a pear-shaped body, you can thank Estrogen. And I mean “thank”, though you may not appreciate your curves, your heart does. Hip, butt, and thigh fat is not inflammatory and does not affect your heart. If you have an apple shaped body, you can blame Cortisol. Yes, blame, because cortisol induced fat is super inflammatory contributing to cardiovascular disease.
