If you have hypothyroidism, let’s talk about how to balance your thyroid hormone naturally.
Your thyroid produces hormones that control your metabolism. If you’re tired, run-down, gaining weight, suffer from brain fog, low motivation, constipation, you may have hypothyroidism or low thyroid function. Maybe your blood panel reveals low thyroid levels, but what if, your doctor says your blood work looks fine. How can that be when you clearly have symptoms of hypothyroidism?
Well, your blood work may be within normal limits, but it may not be your normal.
I like to look at my patients’ bloodwork through the lens of whether or not their hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis is functioning properly. The HPT axis is a negative feedback system.

If your thyroid hormones T4 or T3 are low then your TSH will be high, indicating hypothyroidism. And vice versa. If your T4 or T3 is high then your TSH will be low, indicating hyperthyroidism.
BUT if your TSH is not responding to changes in your thyroid hormone production that is clearly miscommunication in the HPT axis.
If your thyroid is low, then your health care provider will probably prescribe thyroid hormone – synthetic or glandular.
The problem is that you may develop a lifelong dependency on thyroid hormone replacement therapy. And if you have autoimmune thyroiditis, your antibody levels take a very long time to normalize if ever using conventional therapy.
And worst of all, after starting thyroid replacement therapy, you’ll only feel better for a few months. That’s because taking hormones your body should be making does not address the root issue nor does it improve your cells’ uptake of thyroid hormone.
Supporting your hypothalamus is the only way to clear up the miscommunication and get your thyroid functioning normally.
For my hypothyroid patients, I recommend using Genesis Gold® to help retrain their hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. This will increase their natural production of thyroid hormone, increase their T4 to T3 conversion, and improve their cellular uptake of T3. But it takes time. At least three months to heal the hypothalamus and improve thyroid function.
Your thyroid function is highly dependent on healthy adrenal and pancreatic function. The hypothalamus which is the maestro of the entire neuro-immune-endocrine system produces master hormones that orchestrate the symphony of hormones in the body. It is your hypothalamus which tells your pituitary gland what to do.
One hypothalamic hormone called proopiomelanocortin (POMC) controls your thyroid, adrenals, glucose metabolism, day-night cycles, and endorphin production. Sex steroids can also influence thyroid function and thyroid hormones in turn influence ovarian and testicular function.
Since the thyroid does not function alone, the support of the entire endocrine system is crucial.

A healthy diet rich in essential fats (avocados, fatty fish, olive oil, flaxseed) helps to enhance cell membrane function. This is so the thyroid hormone can get into your cells.
Daily consumption of a colorful array of fruits and vegetables provides necessary antioxidants to help detoxify the effect of antithyroid antibodies.
Sea vegetables provide necessary iodine and other trace minerals to enhance healthy thyroid hormone production. Genesis Gold® is fortified with sea vegetation to help optimize your thyroid function.

What is hypothyroidism and what are the most common symptoms?
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces insufficient thyroid hormone, slowing your metabolism. Common symptoms include persistent fatigue, unexplained weight gain, brain fog, low motivation, constipation, and feeling generally run-down. Many women experience these symptoms even when standard blood work appears within “normal” ranges — because normal for the population may not be optimal for your individual physiology.
Why does my doctor say my thyroid labs look fine when I still have symptoms?
Standard thyroid testing evaluates whether your levels fall within a broad population-based reference range — not whether they’re optimal for you specifically. A more comprehensive approach examines whether your hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis is functioning properly as a whole. If your TSH is not responding appropriately to changes in T4 or T3 levels, there is a breakdown in communication along the HPT axis that labs alone may not flag.
What is the HPT axis and why does it matter for thyroid health?
The hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis is a hormonal feedback loop that regulates thyroid function. The hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland, which then signals the thyroid to produce hormones. When this communication breaks down — even if individual hormone levels appear normal — the thyroid cannot function optimally. Supporting this entire axis, rather than treating the thyroid in isolation, is key to restoring healthy thyroid function naturally.
