Aging: Alternatives to Human Growth Hormone

Wouldn’t it be great to have a magic anti-aging bullet? Well, your body produces not one magic bullet but a few. Hormones are your magic bullets. And keeping them balanced is key to graceful aging.

As my patients get older, they ask about human growth hormone or HGH.

Human growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland and is known for its anti-aging effects. HGH injections are very expensive, and often are not covered by insurance.

Yet HGH injections are not where you should start on an anti-aging program. Let’s talk about what aging is first, so you can understand why you need to start at the base of your pyramid of health and hormones.

Your DNA has long strands at the end called telomerase. You start to age when telomerase starts to disintegrate. As you age your mitochondria (those little organelles within your cells that produce energy) start to produce less and less energy.

You want to start balancing your hormones at the base of the pyramid. Without that balance, your hypothalamus won’t allow your body to make more human growth hormone to start revving up muscle tissue, skeletal growth, or other tissue growth. If your HGH levels aren’t in balance with the rest of your endocrine system, you may develop cancer.

1) Balance Sex Hormones

At the base of the pyramid of healthy hormones are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.

These sex hormones are vital to your anti-aging process – they actually create the growth effect that allows you to rejuvenate tissue. Estrogen in particular, allows you to rejuvenate collagen and elastin to keep your tissues healthy and strong, and elasticity means no wrinkles!

Progesterone and testosterone help enhance energy production from the mitochondria. These three hormones work together in females. Testosterone with a little bit of progesterone from the adrenal glands work together in males.

It’s very important that these hormones are in balance before you move on to human growth hormone.

Now, you can get these hormones in balance by taking bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, usually administered in a transdermal form because it’s safest for your liver. Or you can take Genesis Gold® to balance your sex hormones.

2) Balance Thyroid, Adrenal, Glucose Metabolism

Once sex hormones are in balance, you’re going to go on to the middle section of the pyramid. That is a triad of adrenals, pancreatic function, and thyroid. Your adrenal glands produce a hormone called DHEA, which is androgenic and growth stimulating.

These growth stimulating hormones are needed in order to build muscle and tissue. DHEA is how you metabolize protein and fat, and it has to be in balance with its sister hormone cortisol, otherwise, you’re going to have more breakdown of tissue. Cortisol breaks tissue down, and DHEA builds tissue. Your adrenals are hyper-responsive to your thyroid hormone production as they share the same hypothalamic controlling hormone.

Your thyroid hormone is how you produce energy. T3 hormone tells the mitochondria to actually make the energy, but if you don’t have enough T4 hormone, your body can’t convert it into T3 and you’re not going to produce as much energy. So it’s really important that your thyroid is in balance.

Your glucose metabolism is the production of insulin compared to your available blood sugar providing you’re not insulin resistant. It’s very important to get this triad into balance before moving to using HGH for its anti-aging effect.

3) Stimulate HGH Production

Once you get these balanced, then – and only then – can you move into stimulating HGH production. You don’t need to take injections of HGH unless you have true a growth hormone deficiency. What you need is a few simple changes to your daily routine.

First, exercise in the morning.

Human growth hormone, even if you were taking injections, will not do you any good if you do not exercise. You need a good balance of aerobic exercise with weight-resistance exercise to stimulate the human growth hormone’s effect.

Human growth hormone is produced at night, so you need to get a good, deep sleep at night, in order for HGH to do its job. Sleep in a dark room to get enough deep sleep to produce HGH.

Then you can stimulate HGH production with amino acid stacking.

Arginine is the amino acid that stimulates human growth hormone the best.

Unfortunately a lot of people will use this excessively and not give their pituitary gland a break. If they don’t give their pituitary gland a rest, it’s going to get fatigued and you won’t be able to produce human growth hormone even with amino acids.

I usually prescribe amino acid stacking for three months and then take one-month off to give your pituitary the break that it needs to stay healthy and keep working well for you.

Remember, your hypothalamus is directing all of your hormones – it needs to know that your estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are in balance.

It needs to know that your adrenals’ DHEA production, your thyroid’s T4 and T3 production, and your insulin and glucose levels are in balance before it will stimulate the pituitary gland to make human growth hormone.

Even if you’re taking amino acid, these steps need to be in balance. So always get your hormones in a beautiful balance before starting an anti-aging program. Otherwise, you’re going to grow things you don’t want.

Now you know which are the best anti-aging hormones, but it’s not easy if your other hormones are out of balance. I created the hormone reboot training for you to discover how to get your hormones balanced naturally. It’s free.
