Natural Treatment for Cortisol Weight Gain

If you want to know how to lose that stress-induced cortisol weight gain, then here are three simple steps to get fit.

When your hormones are out of balance, it’s hard to get in shape. So let me share three simple steps to help you lose that Cortisol induced body fat

Step 1: Cut Out Sugary, Starchy Carbs

Your body uses carbohydrates for one thing. Energy! If you’re not burning off the calories from sugary starchy carbs then you’re going to store that energy as fat. Your adrenals produce cortisol to release stored sugar so you can get away from danger. But if you’re not running away from real danger, that sugar gets converted by your liver into triglycerides – triple sugars on a fat molecule – perfect for long term storage. And where does it go? Right around your middle. So unless you plan to hibernate for the winter, quit filling up the pantry – your belly fat – with more sugars and starches.

Step 2: Aerobic Exercise Three Times a Week

One way to lose that cortisol induced belly fat is to burn off the extra energy with exercise. Just twenty minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week will help your body reverse the insulin resistance that causes fat storage around your middle. Here’s a simple HIT exercise I recommend for my patients: you can do any aerobic exercise – walking, running, swimming, cycling, rowing whatever – first warm-up for 5-10 minutes, then sprint – go as fast as you can for twenty seconds- then slow down to your warm-up pace for 1-2 minutes. Repeat the twenty-second sprint followed by a 1-2 minute warm-up two more times, then cool down for 5-10 minutes. That’s it. Just three 20 second high-intensity intervals three times a week will help you lose that belly fat.

Step 3: Support Your Adrenals to Lower Cortisol

Your adrenals are amazing glands that control your stress response, your glucose metabolism, your saltwater balance, and even your immune response. Your hypothalamus controls your adrenals through a negative feedback system called the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis or HPA axis. So if your hypothalamus thinks you’re in danger, it tells your adrenals to release cortisol to get your body to release stored sugar to fuel your fight or flight. If the danger isn’t real – not a tiger chasing you but you’re stressed about money, then that extra sugar gets turned into body fat. You can calm down your HPA axis by feeding your adrenals healthy fats, sea salt, and supporting your hypothalamus with Genesis Gold®.
